The Wandering Essentials are on the march this week for WaterAid!

Nicky managed to surpass her goal on Tuesday!

The Walk 4 Water week has finally arrived and Essential Environmental staff (collectively known as the Wandering Essentials) are mid-way through their commitment to walking 10,000 steps per day as part of their fundraising efforts for WaterAid Australia!

To re-cap, the Walk 4 Water campaign is being held this week (17th – 21st March) and aims to raise funds to help WaterAid provide communities across the world with access to safe water and sanitation. 10,000 steps is considered the average distance walked every day just to reach water in the developing world.  22nd March is also World Water Day, a day to think about the 768 million people in the world without access to safe water.

Nicky and Kelly ………doing it for access to safe water and sanitation!

To prove their mettle, WaterAid has provided each participant with a pedometer to wear and allow them to count how many steps they have taken at any given point in time.  While one member of the team dropped their pedometer in the sink and another in the toilet (they shall remain nameless), the rest of us have managed to look after our pedometers to check on how we are going in reaching our daily target (except when some of us accidentally re-set our pedometers!). We also promise that we haven’t attached our pedometers to any family dogs.

A despondent Kelly realises he has walked less than 3,000 steps…

So far the Wandering Essentials have managed to raise a smashing $1,270! Not too bad for a team of five! And a total of $98,220 has been raised to date across the entire campaign.  Thank you SO much to our donors, you have been supremely generous in helping improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene in the world’s poorest communities.

However, we can ALWAYS use more donations to help us in our efforts to support WaterAid Australia and we’re only half way through the week!

So please sponsor us by clicking on this link here and help us to provide WaterAid with the financial support it needs to run its programs to provide safe water and sanitation to those who need it the most:
