Have you ever thought about getting around to installing those solar panels, rainwater tank, planting a vegie patch in your backyard or a native shrubbery in your verge?
Well here is the perfect event for you to get off your bum and find out just the best way of doing that project – Sustainable House Day!
Sustainable House Day is on this and next Sunday across Australia – 7th and 14th September 2014. Over 130 homeowners will open their doors to the Australian general public to give people a chance to take a good look around houses that have been designed, built or fitted out with sustainability in mind. Their will also be the opportunity to talk to owners about their experiences and find out what did and did not worked for them and the benefits they have received.
So go to the website and find yourself a house near you to go and investigate:
Or better yet – there is still time to show off your own home projects and list your OWN house for people to tour!
Houses will be open between 10am – 4pm, unless otherwise specified on individual profiles. Sustainable House Day is a free to gold coin donation event. Some homes may charge a small fee with funds put towards costs of preparing for the house open or for a nominated not for profit group or charity (check out their individual profile pages to make sure!).
This event has been running since 2001 as an initiative of the Australian Solar Council (formerly the Australian Solar Energy Society). For more information on this most excellent endeavour, please contact the Australian Solar Council on:

You can even win yourself a whole bunch of prizes if you’re lucky enough (check out the competitions page HERE)!
So use Sustainable House Day as an excuse to get out and about on a fine Spring Sunday, nosey around people’s houses, and get inspired to make your own home more energy- and water-efficient! You’ll be doing yourself and your community a favour!
